Troy Cook’s Inspiring Story
Life Member of the Fremantle Dockers Continues to Inspire Younger Generations.
Troy Cook grew up in Carnarvon where he enjoyed exploring the land, fishing, swimming and playing sport from a young age. It wasn’t until he moved to Geraldton to finish high school that he started getting serious about football. Moving to Perth shortly after, he worked full time and played WAFL alongside future team mates Peter Bell and Shaun McManus. Drafted to play for the Sydney Swans in 1996, Cook further developed his skills over the 3 years he played with the club. An opportunity to move back home saw Cook sign on with the Fremantle Dockers, playing 150 games over his 7 years with the club. His biggest achievements were becoming a life member and being awarded the Doig Medal in his first year with the club. Post Football, Cook was the Director of Football at the WAFL and has enjoyed getting involved with the Wirrpanda Foundation run by his close mate David Wirrpanda. Today, Troy and his wife Tamara, who has 20 years experience in the events industry, have started their own company called Known Associates where they strive to welcome, train and create pathways to place indigenous people in their desired event management roles.
