Memorial Groves
At Leanne O’Dea, we understand that coping with the loss of a cherished individual is a profound and challenging journey.
In our efforts to support you during this difficult time, we proudly sponsor a special memorial tribute for your loved one, known as the Memorial Tree. This heartfelt gesture involves planting a young tree as a lasting and meaningful memorial, aimed at nurturing your healing process.
We view the act of planting trees as symbolic, symbolizing renewal and the eternal cycle of life. Rest assured, as your tree flourishes within a grove, it will not only stand as a loving tribute but also contribute to the natural beauty and preservation of the Western Australian countryside.
A conversation in a taxi formed a long-lasting relationship
Tim Lawrence, the taxi driver, and his passenger Joe O’Dea Jnr of Bowra & O’Dea, both passionate about the environment, discussed a vision to create a place for families to visit and remember their loved ones surrounded by a forest. The planting of a tree would be both a living legacy and a contribution to the restoration of the natural environment. Since that conversation over 27 years ago, Trillion Trees Australia together with Bowra & O’Dea has planted thousands of native trees across Western Australia, creating Forests of Remembrance and providing vital restoration of degraded land.
Native trees are planted in areas that need rejuvenation and where they will make a positive impact on the environment. In essence, the trees are bringing new life.
Since the inception of this unique and free service in 1995, we’ve sponsored the planting of over 2.5 million trees in conjunction with the Western Australian branch of Men of the Trees, now known as Trillion Trees (an international non-profit society for the planting and protection of trees). The trees are being used for environmental re-vegetation purposes, so they are planned and planted to re-grow and enhance the natural ecology.
Native Species Being Planted
Species selected for Guildford Meadows are locally appropriate and suited to wetland and riparian conditions.
- Acacia Extensa – Wirilda / Wiry Wattle
- Eucalyptus Rudis – Flood Gum (Moitch)
- Melaleuca Viminea – Wiry-Leaf Paperbark
- Jacksonia Furcellata – Grey Stinkwood
In keeping with the environmental focus of Guildford Meadows, no plaques, markers, or memorabilia are placed on individual trees.
This grove is intentionally left natural and unmarked, allowing remembrance to be expressed through restoration and renewal rather than physical objects. If you wish to participate in a tree planting day go to https://trilliontrees.org.au for details.
