Nick Kommer’s Inspiring Story
Kommer’s AFL Dream.
Nick Kommer’s dream was to play AFL and in 2012 he was drafted to Essendon as a mature-aged pick from WAFL. His career at Essendon started as the supplements scandal clouded the club which proved challenging, however he went onto play 19 games with the bombers in their 2013 season and was a well-liked player. The mental health of the players caught up in the scandal took a toll on the club as a whole, which soon after saw many changes occur. In 2016 after suffering injury setbacks Nick was outed from the club, however that didn’t stop his dream of playing footy. Once returning home to Perth, Nick continued to play WAFL at a number of clubs and still enjoys playing today, although he has pushed his focus to finishing his Masters at UWA. Nick plans to teach Sport and Health in secondary education, where he hopes he can mentor kids who have a dream to play AFL one day.
