Dean Margetts Inspiring Story
Calling the Shots in AFL Games.
Dean Margetts is paid to notice the little things which occur in the game of AFL. Umpiring 376 matches, including 12 finals matches, he was awarded the Bishop Shield in 2012 for his efforts on and off the field and is an AFL Life Member. After his debut at 27, Dean has witnessed the game change over the years. Umpires are a vital part of the sport who unfortunately receive backlash for decisions others might not agree with. Deans career has made him mentally strong to deal with this however, younger umpires who don’t have experience behind them might struggle. He hopes to provide support and guidance to Umpires in the WAFL League as he commences his new role with them.
