Peter John McLaughlin

The Funeral Mass for Rev Fr Peter John McLaughlin of Fremantle will be celebrated in St Patrick's Basilica, 47 Adelaide Street, Fremantle, commencing at 9:30am on WEDNESDAY (31.12.2025).
Following the Mass the cortege will meet at main entrance of Fremantle Cemetery, Carrington Street, Palmyra at 11:15am for a Burial Service.
Please assemble at the Sampson Pavilion at 11:05am. 

It is with sadness that the Australian Province announces the death of Fr Peter John McLaughlin OMI, on 20^th December 2025.Fr John was born on the 6^th December 1939 in Perth, Western Australia.  He joined the Oblate Novitiate in 1958, was sent to Rome to complete his priestly formation, and was ordained a priest in Rome on 18^th December 1965.

In 1972, he joined the Indonesia mission and spent the next 46 years as a missionary in that country, as parish priest, formator, chaplain to journalists, artists and medical practitioners, and Provincial superior. A special part of his ministry was Family Planning (the Billings Method). He worked with the government and others to get the Billings method approved officially as a valid birth control method.

The Australian Province gives thanks to God for the life and ministry of Fr John McLaughlin OMI. May he rest in peace.
