Yarlalu Thomas’s Inspiring Story
Inspiring Others to Chase an Education.
At the age of 21, Yarlalu Thomas has been everywhere man. Born in the small community of Warralong, he’s come a long way from home, currently living in Perth and studying a double degree of medical science and medicine at UWA. He dreams to one day return to live and work in remote communities. Growing up his mother moved around a lot and therefore changing schools often, was a common thread in Thomas’s life. His mother appreciated education and while she led by example studying to become a Lawyer, she never pushed Yarlalu into doing something he didn’t enjoy. Tossing up the idea of AFL, Thomas soon realised that studying medicine was a better option for him to make an impact and changes within rural communities like Warralong. Many opportunities arouse from living in Perth and while studying a double degree, Yarlalu also works at King Edward Hospital, where he looks into new technologies to diagnose rare conditions.
The 2020 WA Young Australian of the year, is inspiring others to chase an education.
