The 2022 Mandurah Seniors Forum

Connecting with our Mandurah community
On Monday, 14th November 2022, Bowra & O’Dea hosted the 2022 Mandurah Seniors Forum. Located onsite at the beautifully appointed Sid’s Place function centre, branch manager Garry Russell welcomed four keynote speakers plus Mandurah’s Prime Movers exercise instructors.
Our first speaker Catherine Bastow, lawyer and director of NashClavey-Mandurah, shared her expertise on will and estate planning. Catherine covered topics including will planning, enduring power of attorney, advance health directives and enduring power of guardianship. The next speaker Jamie Wooley, a senior financial adviser from Merideon Wealth Strategies, discussed funding your retirement, superannuation, estate planning, and the different retirement life stages. After a quick break for tea and biscuits, Seniors Coordinator Lisa Gardiner from the City of Mandurah introduced the vibrant, energetic and diverse Senior Citizens Centre. Lisa shared stories from some of the 2,500 members and the array of activities members participate in – from health and wellbeing to art and design. Taking it up a notch, Prime Movers took to the stage, demonstrating their exercise programs to promote health, fitness and well-being through dance. Audience members and Bowra & O’Dea staff got into the groove! Our last speaker of the day was Bowra & O’Deas’ Funeral Services Development Manager, Bernardine Brierty. Bernardine presented Your Goodbye, a talk focused on the purpose of a funeral, saying goodbye, the funeral director’s role, prepaid funeral choices, bonds and most importantly – having the hard conversations with your loved ones. After the session, Bowra & O’Dea staff conducted a tour of our chapel and facilities, followed by a delicious lunch at Sids Place. Thank you to everyone involved and the community members who came along, asked great questions, got up, had a dance, and shared some fantastic stories over lunch.
